Synthetic Kin

Synthetic Kin explores the relationship between human and non-human life, reflecting on the delicate connections that sustain ecological systems and the growing overlap between the natural and the artificial.

Inspired by marine organisms, the central creature is an abstract digital form positioned somewhere between a living organism and a technological creation. Through projection and real-time motion capture, the movements of a human performer are transferred onto the creature, not as a direct imitation, but as a translation between different bodies. The contrast between human movement and the creature’s unfamiliar anatomy creates gestures that feel both recognizable and strange, highlighting the distance and connection between organic and synthetic forms.

Through abstraction, movement, and digital fabrication, Synthetic Kin explores the relationships that connect different forms of existence. The work reflects on a future where biological and technological systems are no longer separate, but increasingly intertwined.
